7 mistakes that stall your growth on social media (and how to fix them)

Most accounts don't grow because of mistakes that are easy to fix. Here they are one by one, with the concrete solution.

If you've been posting for a while and feel you're not moving forward, it's almost certainly not a lack of talent: you're repeating one of these mistakes. The good news is that all of them can be fixed.

1. Starting the video with a greeting

“Hi everyone, how's it going? Welcome to a new video…” is the fastest way to lose people. Start straight with the interesting part. You can put the greeting in later, once you've stopped the scroll.

2. Talking to everyone

When your content talks to anyone, it reaches no one in particular. Pick one concrete person (age, problem, situation) and talk to them. You'll sound clearer and closer.

3. Giving no reason to follow you

People follow accounts that promise something: learning about a topic, laughing, getting inspired. If your videos are all different and without a thread, there's no reason to hit “follow”. Define what your account is about.

4. Posting and disappearing

The first minutes after publishing matter. Reply to comments, answer stories, spark conversation. The algorithm reads that interaction as a sign that your content is worth it.

Jumping on a trending audio is fine, but if you don't connect it to your topic, you attract people who won't follow you. Use the trend as a vehicle for YOUR message, not the other way round.

6. Giving up after 3 weeks

Almost nobody blows up in the first month. Growth on social media is slow at first and speeds up once you have volume and consistency. The mistake isn't going slow: it's quitting before it starts paying off.

7. Spending more time planning than publishing

The perfect account you never publish doesn't exist. It's better to put out ten imperfect pieces and learn than one “perfect” piece a month. Lower the production bar and raise the frequency.

How Gancho helps with this

Several of these mistakes come down to a single block: the blank page. When you have the hooks, the ideas and the script already built, you have energy left for what really moves the needle: shooting often and replying to your people. That's the part Gancho takes off your plate.
